It looks like some news releases for DC Universe Online have finally started coming in following Comic Con. Thank goodness, I was starting to believe they might leave us in the dark. Foremost on the list is a new interview with Jim Lee on GameSpy. Embedded in the interview is a nice video showing some live game play for us *drool*. The interview explains some of the small nuances to the game, such as an explanation of the time line issues many may have noticed with the costumes thus far (most notably with Green Lantern for example). Additionally, some hints as to how loot and drops might work in the game. Game Spy also has an interview with Chris Cao the Creative Director. This article is a must. The first in depth look into character creation I’ve seen thus far!

A new entry from PS3 Fan Boy has been posted as well. This one seems focused on the more action oriented aspects of the game and lauds the fact that it will be more console like and focus less on the traditional aspects of MMORPG’s such as camping. What do you mean no camping? Are you saying I can’t sit for hours on end waiting for Sinestro to spawn over and over again just to collect pretty little yellow rings and sell them to n00bs? Ah well, I suppose I’ll live.

The final entry I have to add this morning is from Wired Blog Network. Mostly a straight forward article on the game with a decent screen shot.

The highpoints that I’m taking out of these articles have been mentioned in some degrees in previous articles but are worth repeating. They reiterate the fact that the PC Characters will begin with the super powers in effect. If you are a speedster, your going to be fast right off the bat. No waiting to level 14 to get that burst. Likewise with flying. It seems there will be no hovering at a snails pace while the fight goes on far beneath you, you want to fly...voila...you fly. Character progression will be more about tweaking your powers than gaining it in stages. Another great point I’m finding is the lack of leveled zones. From the snippets I’ve seen thus far, the environment will be interactive with our characters. The instances that spawn will be level appropriate for our characters. This has both good and bad points to it, but more good than bad for the average player. After all, if we want to see the world that all these artists have spent hours creating, it only makes since to allow the lower level characters to have free roam as well.

Thanks for looking, and I’ll keep hunting.

Duane
